About: Christ Community Health Services Augusta (CCH) is a rapidly growing, primary care health clinic and a community and faith-based 501 (c) (3) organization serving families in a ten-county region between Georgia and South Carolina.
As our patient population continues to grow throughout the greater Augusta area, we are in search of a caring and competent full-time Referral Specialist to join our team! Our four clinics (five, including dental) are strategically located in urban Augusta neighborhoods, providing local access to affordable care for patients who face medical, economic and transportation hardships. As a federally qualified health center and certified patient-centered medical home, we accept patients with no insurance, Medicare, Medicaid and most commercial insurance plans.

Position Overview:
Under supervision of the Referral Department Manager, the Referral Specialist is responsible for the referral process that is initiated by Providers at CCH. The position is also responsible for following up on any referrals created as well as any pre-authorizations required by patients’ insurance companies. 
Key responsibilities include:
  • Exemplifies the mission, vision, and core values of CCH by promoting a culture of loving, holistic patient engagement characterized by trust, grace, and accountability;
  • Advocating for patients;
  • Receiving and processing patient information and paperwork related to patient’s referrals;
  • Making sure referral appointments are scheduled and followed up on;
  • Ensuring pre-authorization for services is received;
  • Ensuring all billing information is entered correctly by other staff so referrals can be processed in timely manner;
  • Informing self-pay patients of the cost of services at the referred facilities;
  • Processing referrals that come through patient portal.
What we’re looking for in a candidate:
  • Referral and Pre-Authorization experience,
  • Eager and able to embody the Mission, Vision, and Core Values of CCH;
  • Able and willing to demonstrate love, compassion, and genuine care when interacting with others;
  • Basic knowledge of medical coding;
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills that allow for regular and effective communication of sensitive and confidential information with a variety of people, including patients, third-party payors, and providers;
  • Able to prioritize work and work independently to meet deadlines, while proactively engaging supervisor and co-workers when needed;
  • Strong overall computer skills, including meaningful experience working within an EHR platform and basic experience with Microsoft Excel.
